Genoa SAIL FITTING

Post by atles »

Hi,all i got hold of a Genoa for my boat made out of Dacron it has a wire luff an oldie but a goodie
few rust stains on it ,and will need some new piton hacks but for $1.25 + $20.00 shipping off e-bay i think i did well :D

on my sail masts i have a roller in the mast to take halyard right at the top which is not being used
the next part is for the forestay and the jib halyard.
can i use the top rollers with a new halyard rope inside the mast,so the sail sits higher off the side deck or do i have to use the jib halyard?

also the best set up to hold the foot of the sail to the back of the cockpit thanks i do not feel like laying more track down the side of the boat.

Usually the halyard for a jib exits the mast below the stay for the sail. That top sheave is for a masthead configuration or a masthead spinnaker. Most of the 563s are a fractional rig,
Seeing that your new sail has a wire luff, haul it to the masthead using that spare sheave and forget about hanks. It may work alright like a code 0 if the sail is cut correctly to be used like that. If it is a rather flat cut it may be hard to get the right shape, correct sag and luff tension with out hanking it onto a stay. Give it a try and be sure to look up the mast when you set the sail to check that the mast is still in column, also you will need to have a securely mounted backstay and it would be wise to have the main up first, right to the top.
