Thanks Ron . Reasonable really considering the cost of good quality marine sealants like sika . Tape is the goto now for major boat manufacturers so obviously the way of the future.

Hi all, I recently purchased a Marauder 27 from Gosford NSW. A little bit of work involved to get her back up to speed as was neglected by an older sailer for the past few years. Got her cheap with motor problems. Has a MD7A Volvo Penta. Wasn’t cooling or running above idle and very Smokey. After a bit of investigation and minor maintenance runs great and now runs at all revs. In the process of changing out running rigging and sealing up a few dozen leaks. Got a good set of sails with her and should be sailing in the next couple of weeks. Has a sail drive with 2 blade folding prop too. My pics are too large to put on forum but happy to answer any questions and happy to be part of a forum for these rare boats.

Hello Browny64, thanks for photos and welcome to our little forum. Looks like a great boat. It always good to see these great designs passing on to new enthusiasts and keeping on the water. As with the Investigators, I’m sure Kevin Shepherd would be chuffed to think his boats are continuing to attract new owners in this iPhone powered century.

Onya Browny!

I rang the previous owner about it and I was pretty sure the engine would be fixable. If it hadn't been so far away I would been onto it. :)

Please keep us informed, you and Ron will be able swap info too.

Hope you are out about soon.

Ronald wrote: Mon Apr 04, 2022 11:39 pm Regarding the mast base, it would appear that it was originally designed to rotate to match the current tack. In the second photo I can see a bit broken under the left metal sheave which probably was an end-stop to limit the rotation. In the past someone has added the screwed on vertical metal bars to freeze the mast ability to turn. I think the forces then applied to the unit created the crack.

Any suggestions will be happily received.

Ron.
Hi Ron I have the identical problem maybe even worse than yours. Would love to see what you come up with down the track. I’m not sure the alloy piece rotated but I have the same stainless tabs on the bottom, for what I’m unsure. My rollers are still functioning but will require attention soon, cheers Chris

Looks like a great buy Browny after all the refitting. Hope it sells quickly for you . If I were 10 years younger I’d buy it myself.
