Yarralumla sail-past

G'Day investigators
Due to work commitments I haven't had much opportunity to sail 'Whispering Wind' here in Canberra. The best trip I've done so far is to sail/coast/row my way from the CYC to Yarralumla. Check out the two short vids I took. You'll note the oars attached to the pushpit stanchion - in the mode of Roger Taylor http://www.thesimplesailor.com/ I'm trying out the use of oars instead of my 6hp Yamaha (which is great but I only use it for 3 mins at each end of the day). See the Corribee webpage for specifics: http://corribee.org/technical/sweeps/ I stand and row facing forward with the tiller between my legs. Gives me enough headway for steerage, and closes the gap to shore in quick enough time. When I return to Bateman's bay, I won't bother with the sweeps - yammie all the way to cross the bar!
Hmmm. looking again at the vid I'm not sure my sail setup is correct, maybe the jib sheet cars are too far forward?

Looks like nice smooth sailing Sean, I have never had a sail on a calm waterway with a good breeze, thanks for posting.
With regards to rowing, if I was in your situation I might have a go at sculling, always looks magical.

Interesting sailing Sean. Next time please slow down your pans over the boat, we like to see all the details. Also gives us more time to reflect on why we should be out on the water too!

Hi Sean,

Thanks for the post and links. Teria has a pair of oars aboard (which i've never used) and your (and RT's) pushpit/rope grommet idea sounds great/simple to rig, so hope to experiment with it next trip. Just hope the oars are the correct length. !

(years ago watched an Australian historical TV drama once set in ?19th century in the Paramatta river and one character had a rather hefty clinker workboat (about 22ft/) to get to their waterside farm which he rowed in the stand up face forward mode once the wind died off, and it moved along nicely)

How is your rowing system working out/evolving ?

Cheers
