This is our first time out proper sailing. Bit of a learning curve but we figured it out as the day went on. Almost no wind in the morning, plenty enough in the afternoon and made it out of the water just in time for the storm in the evening. This is about 6hrs of GOPRO footage squeezed down to 5 mins.

Enjoyed your video Greg. Very impressive sail first time out.
I have'nt sailed Botany Bay yet - been sailing Port Hacking (from Grays point) and the Hawkesbury(from Parsley bay Brooklyn) a few times. Where do you launch there in Botany Bay?
I often sail out of Port Kembla and on Lake Illawarra down here in Wollongong.
We must arrange a sailing day soon.
Many thanks

Greg

Thanks for the nice vid, takes me back to my first sail on my I563.

Couple of points to note if you do not mind.

You have no life lines on your boat and I noted your guys went forward a few times. This is always risky on small boat made more so by the observation that you both were not wearing life jackets.

I never sail without lifejackets regardless of conditions. Sorry, I am a Marine Rescue Volunteer and this is something that I am pretty obsessive about. Conditions and circumstances can change quickly and a LJ is a minimal level of survival support for persons on any vessel. Fair winds

Best

Mark

Thanks for all the comments guys!

We launched the I563 from the brand new 4 lane ramp just built next to the 3rd airport runway on Forshore Rd Botany. Even though its a massive carpark what looks to have at least 100 trailer parks it was still packed and we were lucky to get a spot. Also, im assuming due to its proximity to the airport, the ramp is staffed with two "security" guards who seem to inject chaos into launching and retriving as they try to boss everyone around without really knowing whats going on. Anyway its the closest ramp to where I live where I can launch with the mast up, don't know how I would go raising the mast on the water tring to get the leverage to clip in the front stay.

Once we get a bit more experienced I plan on trying to sail everything on the east coast (company car so I can do some driving), ill let you know when we plan to get down to Wollongong, most likely around next spring.

Thanks again for the encouragement and advice!

Cheers Greg
Also agree with Mark - the Marine Rescue people do a great job looking after us out there. I almost learnt the hard way in my Corsair dinghy days and now as
a skipper always use LJ for me and crew. Also now (after a couple of scares) I use a safety harness when sailing solo offshore and/or when using outboard/auto pilot.
Happy and safe saiing
