Investigator 563 WANTED - Sydney, NSW

Post by PCFreestyle »

Hi, I'm looking to purchase a pre-loved Investigator 563.

Ideally in reasonable condition with a furler jib.
Am based in Sydney - the boat will be moored on a swing mooring in Manly Cove.
So trailer not required - & I have a spare outboard.
Boat will need a sound centreboard mechanism.

I'm a cash buyer, & will probably get boat surveyed.
Also happy to offer a fixed keel Cole 19 (more of a mooring minder) as part exchange

Cheers
Peter

Thanks for your new message Ozzie.

Yes, still interested, still looking.

On a separate matter - I do have a slight concern about how to keep the keel in good order when the boat is to be permanently moored on a swing mooring in Sydney harbour.

Cheers

Fair question Peter. I’ve treated my swing keel/centre board with mostly fish oil my whole ownership. Other than when welding on a new pull rind for the rope, when I took the opportunity to prime it , metal paint and antifoul. At one point I blocked off the slot at the bottom and filled the cavity with a 4 litre tin using a funnel in the pull rope tube. Then drained it out back into the tin. I found this time consuming, messy and ultimately unnecessary. I use spray fishoil these days and so far so good.

I’ve forgotten the figures as it’s been so long ago, but I researched that gal coated steel will lose x% of its thickness per year in salt water before the protected steel started to rust. Ok, fine. The oldest ship in the world at x thousand years old was reeds waterproofed with, you guessed it, fish oil. As I figured I would not own Spritzig II for more than a thousand years I considered keeping the gal coated with FO would give it the best longevity. You can find pics if my progress on here somewhere just put “fish” in the search box.

I’ve contemplated a non trailer ownership of the boat also as I had my pre-Investigator Swiftcraft Cruiser on the hard stand. I’m assuming when you get the boat lifted out of the briney you’d get multiple blocks, for height, placed under the keel but forward and aft of the keel slot so you could drop the centre board and spray in the slot. I perform this function with the boat half off my trailer with a rear stand.

Hope you find a boat soon and It has a decent trailer I can buy. Edited for not being proofread
