Re: small is beautiful
Hi All, Thanks to Ian, I have found my way back onto the site. Apparently I was one of the first members ten years ago! Anyway this topic interests me as I have a tiny CAL14 as well as Tricksy, my I563 (sail number 4). I should be selling the CAL but I can't bring myself to do it as she (Gypsy) is s...

INVESTIGATOR FOR SALE IN WOODEND VICTORIA - SOLD
Now have my SC25, so sadly "Private Eye" has to go. Good clean boat in original gel-coat with new spotted gum gunwhales and new signwriting. Only mods are sensible ones including telescopic fitting for assistance with mast raising, rig tensioning arm on stbd. shrouds, fibreglass raised har...

Re: Looking to buy in SA
Hi Xavier, My email is pandaY@bigpond.com. I think I forgot to mention the boat also has new spotted gum gunwhale protectors and the standard "never used porta-potti" under the V berth. My price on "Private Eye" is not really negotiable, although I might be getting an older 6hp o...

Re: sailing on Port Phillip Bay
I have to agree that PPB can be intimidating, mainly because it has nothing to shelter behind and with 40km or so of open water at times, the wave action can be quite scarey, especially for us part-timers. Coming from an aviation background, the story about needing to get from Werribee to Queensclif...

Re: Looking to buy in SA
Our beloved Investigator "Private Eye" is sort of on the market now. It is our second Investigator and we love them, but moving to a bigger TS so has to go. It might be a bit more than your price range, but it is in great condition and we are in Victoria. Boat is in good white gelcoat with...

Re: Mast Question.
My boat came with a brilliant rear yoke with a small roller on top which I mount on the pintles and then lift the mast from its road support onto the yoke. It has a telescoping section which makes it easy to lift the rear of the mast a couple of feet. This is the critical bit as it gives enough angl...

Re: Investigator 563 sail dimensions
Thanks Ian, On a related topic, my previous Investigator had a removable mast support in the cabin, in the middle of the "arch", presumably to take any flex out of the cabin top and prevent mast "pumping". My current boat doesn't have this and I wonder if it is any use and if oth...

Re: Investigator 563 sail dimensions
Hi Ian, Am looking to buy a storm jib and a bit confused about dimensions. The Association dimension (about 4.2 sq m) seems to be about two thirds the area of the working jib, which seems too big to me if you are thinking 30 knots or so of wind and wanting to haul down the furler jib for something n...

Re: Heavy weather sailing
G'day Matt, Ian obviously knows his stuff and he is dead right about the boat looking after you, but I have a slightly different technique as the wind rises. Basically, starting with a full main and working jib, I think about one reef at about 15 knots and a second at 20 knots before reducing the ji...

Re: Help on a replacement Gunwale
Haven't run ino a jetty yet with my new spotted gum gunwhales, so can't report on their knock resistance but they look good and I imagine will give a lot of protection. They did cost me about $500 to buy the wood and get it machined to the right shape, so not cheap. Haven't mastered photos yet but c...
