Re: small is beautiful

Steve, interesting to hear that you have a keelboat as well as the Investigator 563. Please tell us more about it, the whys and the way it works. I must confess to lusting after a keelboat again, but would find it hard to part with my Investigator. In my case there is no way I could have the time f...

Re: small is beautiful

I think Lyn and Larry's books and DVDs are really trying to tell you how they do it, not a how to do it but it comes across differently to the more modern sailor. They are very much hands on people that learnt to sail and maintain a sail boat on a shoe string budget whilst they travel the world. Peo...

Re: small is beautiful

No can of worms here, just the start of a discussion about Lawrence's opinion. Ozzie mentioned the Pardey's, I have a couple of their books and most of their DVD's. Whilst I love their adventures and knowledge of sailing. Some of the stuff they say borders on stupidity whilst trying to promote or ju...

Re: Leaking bilge HELP

Hi Ozzie, I'm sure the bilge is the same, its just been filled to top of the center board case with what I think is concrete then epoxy/glassed over. It has a square timber beam glassed to the top of the center board case to support the floor that I have removed. Take a look at Greg's drawing I modi...

Re: small is beautiful

Nothing difficult about sailing an Investigator 563. Hi Ian I wasn't trying to say the 563 was difficult sail, I was really trying to put some perspective on sailing as a whole act. For example, compare a laser to a 563, to a Contessa 32. I would think that longer you are on board, the Contessa wou...

Re: small is beautiful

If you want a big boat experience then find a crew position on a keel-boat. If they are decent then they will be glad to have you. But crewing on a bigger boat doesn't get you a bigger boat, some of us might just want a bigger boat, something that is easier to sail than a 563 and more practical . T...

Re: Leaking bilge HELP

Hi Greg, You may be correct about the osmosis, I have what looks to me like a big delamination blister down on the keel. It hasn't broken through the gel coat. It feels dry and crunchie , I should grind it out. My boat is kept in a shed over a concrete floor and I have never seen water leaking from ...

Re: small is beautiful

You could sell the 563 and get one of these  . Just imagine, no trailer and being able to launch anywhere, tons of fun. How much cheaper to run would that be compared to a 563

Re: Jacking up an I563 off the trailer

Mark, I took mine off the trailer, I just lowered the side supports/rollers on the trailer to give clearance to the hull,,. pulled a strap around the hull and through the bow eye to a chain block on the ground behind the boat and cranked it off backwards. Once at balancing point I jacked under the k...
